About Me!

My name is Jen, I’m a third year environmental studies student at York University.  I am specializing in Politics, with interests in environmental justice and power/distribution relations, as well as focusing on conservation management (save the animals, woo!).

From what I can tell, school for most university students is nothing more than a vehicle, a method to achieve their end result. The entire four or five year process is nothing more than countdowns and milestone celebrations. One week until all my papers are done, 342 days until I graduate… . I have always held the position that four years, out of my ripe twenty years of living, is a pretty decent chunk of time. Not only does 525, 600 minutes times four seem like an eternity, these years are pivotal in how we establish our beliefs, values and create a foundation for the rest of our lives to be built upon.

I have always made a promise to myself to make these  four years matter. To myself, to my education, to my school and to my community. This is what has fueled me to become involved on campus, to tackle obstacles and to just go for all opportunities presented to me that spark my interest. So far, I have no regrets.

The purpose of this blog is to share my story, because people relate through stories. We enjoy hearing other stories, learning from others’ experiences and feeling like we can relate to other human beings and like we are part of something bigger. I’m not sure if I have the power or eloquence to inspire people through an online blog, but I can hope that I can at least help you find the beauty, awkwardness and humour in life.
